“They dissolve completely in both hot and cold water and leave my clothes smelling fresh.”

It is called sodium lauryl sulfate. Most labels shorten it to SLS.
A 1995 review in Contact Dermatitis describes SLS as the most widely used model for studying acute and cumulative skin irritation, with decades of research behind it. In 1997 the European Society of Contact Dermatitis published guidelines on how to expose human skin to SLS in a standardised way for those studies.
To be clear about what that means: a wash cycle is not a patch test, and rinsed clothing is not a lab exposure. Those studies looked at SLS on skin, not at laundry.
But if you are the one whose skin reacts, you already know which ingredient list you would rather not have against it all day.
So where do you start?
With the detergent that touches every fabric in your home.
Read the ingredient panel on a laundry detergent, liquid, pod or sheet. Some list SLS by name. It is a cheap, effective surfactant, which is exactly why it shows up in so many formulas.
You need a detergent that gets sweat, grease and grass out of clothes. That should not require the ingredient researchers reach for when they want a reaction.

Here is the part nobody prints on the box.
Plenty of people have made this switch once already. They bought a sheet with a soft label, ran the gym clothes, and pulled them out still smelling like the gym. The collar ring stayed. Half the load went back in with a scoop of the old stuff, and the clean sheets went to the back of the shelf.
Cold water and hard water make it worse. A formula that skips enzymes and water softeners has nothing to work with on a cold cycle in a full drum.
That failure was never about leaving out SLS. It was about being under-built. A sheet that leaves out the harsh stuff also has to leave in the parts that make detergent work.
Think of an enzyme as a tiny pair of scissors. Each one cuts one kind of mess into pieces small enough to rinse away.
Goes after protein stains: sweat, blood, grass, egg, the baby food that dried on.
Breaks down oils and grease: collar grime, body oil, cooking splatter, the makeup on a pillowcase.
Dissolves sticky, gummy residue: chocolate, ice cream, sauces, and the lotion build-up that leaves fabric dull and grey.
Coconut-derived cleaning agents and two real soaps carry the enzymes' work through the wash. Made without SLS, and without petroleum-based surfactants.
Washing soda and citrus-derived sodium citrate soften hard water so the soaps work at full strength in every machine.
All three enzymes stay active in cold water, so the cold cycle is fair game. No hot water needed.

Dehydrated, not diluted. Liquid detergent is mostly water; a sheet is the detergent with the water taken out, which is why it is about 95% lighter than liquid.
Fragrance-free by design. Clean clothes smell like nothing. Three scents are there if you want them, made without phthalates, the chemicals added to make perfume linger.
Sheets come in a 100% recyclable paper box with a slide-out drawer. No jug, no cap, no drips.

Worst case, you rewash one load. Best case, laundry is easier, lighter, and a whole lot cleaner for the rest of your life.
Fair. That happened to a lot of people. Sweat and body-oil odor are protein and lipid stains, and a sheet without the enzymes for those has nothing to break them down. Wash'd Laundry Detergent Sheets carry protease and lipase for exactly that, plus mannanase for sticky residue, and two water softeners so the soaps work in hard water. Your purchase is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee.
We cannot promise that, and nobody should. Skin reacts to many things, and detergent is only one of them. What we can tell you is what is not in the box: no SLS, no optical brighteners, no dyes, no 1,4 dioxane, no parabens, no phthalates. Fragrance Free leaves out perfume too. If your skin is the reason you are here, start there.
Sodium lauryl sulfate is a common cleaning agent. It is also the standard irritant dermatologists apply to skin on purpose when they study irritation, which is why a lot of sensitive-skin households choose to avoid it. A wash cycle is not a skin test, and we do not claim otherwise. We simply formulated without it. Wash'd Laundry Detergent Sheets use coconut-derived and plant-derived soaps instead.
Fragrance Free is not supposed to smell. Scent is perfume that stayed behind on the fabric, and “fragrance” on a label can cover ingredients that are never listed. The proof is a clean shirt, not a clean smell. If you want your laundry to smell like lavender, pick Lavish Lavender, made without phthalates.
One sheet for a large load, half a sheet for a small one, two for an extra-large or heavily soiled load. Sheets are perforated down the middle so the tear is clean. A few reviewers with very large drums or very dirty loads use more; if that is you, plan on a full sheet as your minimum.
Yes. Enzymes are the low-temperature specialists, and all three stay active in cold water. The sheet dissolves completely in about 10 seconds in front-load, top-load and high-efficiency machines. No dispenser drawer needed; it goes straight in the drum.
No, and we would rather tell you than let you assume. The sheet is held together with polyvinyl alcohol, a water-soluble film that dissolves fully in the wash. The box is 100% recyclable paper, and there is no jug. If a fully plastic-free sheet is your line, this is not it yet.
Buy 1 pack pays regular price, Buy 2 packs get 10% off, and Buy 3 packs get 20% off plus free shipping. Every option is a one-time purchase.
Three cleaning enzymes (protease, lipase, mannanase), coconut-derived and plant-derived surfactants, two real soaps, glycerin for softness, washing soda and sodium citrate for hard water, and the water-soluble film that holds the sheet together. Fragrance in the scented SKUs only. Full list on the product page.
If you can have a powerful laundry detergent made without SLS and optical brighteners, why keep buying the one that has them?
Toss one in the drum. Run the load. Pull out clothes that smell like nothing.
